How might we use community art to help college students mature past their parental relationships?

I created a virtual version of my capstone on Miro. Participate virtually here :)

What is Capstone?

At Stevenson, every senior creates a large final project, or completes a major internship. Every major has different requirements, and ways that their department goes about the process. In the Visual Communication Design/Graphic Design Program our capstone takes place in two parts. In the fall we take a course called Design Research where we spend the whole semester exploring ideas and doing the research for our capstone. In the spring we execute our ideas and create a exhibition that displays all that we did. No one's projects are the same because there are no requirements or restrictions on topics and ideas or the form that your exhibition takes. For example, my project is community arts based focusing on parental relationships, while one of my peers is focusing on love languages. Its all up to us!
As a class we decided that Constellate was our capstone theme. Visit out website and instagram to learn about everyone's work!

My capstone topic

My project, as stated above, is about parental relationships and using community art to explore this. I came to this topic when thinking about how much my parents and childhood come up in my therapy sessions and noticing similar things in my friends. I decided to incorporate community arts as the beginning exploration of my masters degree. In the fall, I will attend the Maryland Institute College of Art for an MFA in Community Arts.

In the fall semester I created and distributed a survey asking my peers about their parental relationships and how they effected them. You can view the detailed results at this link. I used the data from this survey in the zine that I created, and I am really thankful for the participants for sharing with me. I wanted the survey to be completely anonymous so I have no way of contacting them, but if any of them are seeing this, thank you.
To help me a bit I created a lesson plan to go along with the activity. This was apart of my exploring wanted to get my teaching certification during grad school and being a professor in the future.
