Baltimore Clayworks is a 501(c)3 non-profit ceramics based located in Baltimore's Mt Washington Neighborhood.

Near the end of our term, The Community Arts Collaborative (a branch of AmeriCorps) housed at MICA put on an exhibition showcasing the work of the group and our students work!

I spent ten weeks with seven 5th Graders helping them to create the projects like small mosaics, tiles, and whatever else they want!

For ten weeks I worked with a few lovely young artists introducing them to the world of clay working. We explored larger topics and ideas such as community, self-agency, advocacy, and more all while learning about clay!

Clay Club at a Middle School 2021

For the privacy and protection of the students I have omitted things that will aid in identifying them. 

A middle school in Baltimore, MD welcomed me each week after school to Clay Club to a group of 12 of their students. I created the curriculum and implementation methods, while the ideas and creativity were all the students doing! We had one short hour together but were making work that captures the beautiful ideas in their minds. I have overarching lesson goals and objectives but allow the students to decide on the end product to be able to implement my greatest goal of aiding in their agency as artists.
